Default G1 speed help

Hi everyone can someone help me out? My 1981 G1 complete stock has regular wheels and tires on it and the only thing I have done to it so far is opened the governor screw all the way, done away with the oil tank and mix the gas and oil and today with my GPS in hand I can only get 16 miles per hour out of it wide open. I know these carts will move out but dont know what else to do, I dont want to put larger wheels on it but I would like to see at least 20 or 25 miles per hour. Oh by the way the engine is strong and runs great also new plug.
Anyone please help.
Thank you Calvin

Check to make sure your clutches are opening and closing all the way. And check your belt for wear.

Hi Ron my belt is really wore I ordered 3 of them a few days ago just waiting for them to arrive. The one that is on there now is only going up the front clutch 3/4 way.
Thanks Ron

New belt should help. I've seen some guys put a longer screw in the governor to get a tad more adjustment. You should hit 20 or more with a G1.

Hi Spriddle great idea I'll try that also, I am hoping the new belts arrive tomorrow but who knows. I took my GPS in hand today and 16 was it and I am sure my other G1 goes a little faster but it should it has 10 inch mags on it with those big knobby tires.
I'll make a new bolt tomorrow for it thanks again fellows.

Hi Calvin. My brother in law, I know he was pushing close to 20 or 25 out of his G1 and it was stock all over. I think he actually put a longer screw and a hose clamp around his governor. I'm not sure but he did have it rigged up to play.

How ya doing Dirtsouth, oh yea your right I have learned a whole lot for The new Guy and Spriddle both guys are very talented about these carts.
Spriddle that is exactly what I will do tomorrow, I have to do a little adjusting on the carb needle anyway it buck jumps at low speeds and I have to pedal it at very low speeds like 2 to 3 mile an hour.
Let you all know what happens tomorrow and thanks a million my friends.
