Default 2017 Drive2 EFI Rear Hub Creak

Has anyone had any experience with this?

2017 Drive2 EFI with the independent rear end.

Left hand rear hub creaks when driven or manually rotated.

I have removed the wheel and brake drum, put the trans in neutral and when rotating the hub by hand, it still gives a loud creaking as it turns. There's no discernible movement vertically when gripping the hub and no noise when doing the same.

With only 380Hrs I can't believe it's a dry wheel bearing and haven't been able to find a parts manual to see what's what with the hub/axle/bearing assembly.

Thanks in advance,
Rob

It is possible the inner seal was not installed all the way in and seated correctly.

Thank you both for the replies, I'll let you know how it goes as it's rapidly climbing my to do list.

Can you give me the correct torque please Golf cart guy? I believe it's 90-140ft/lb but it's smarter to be sure than wrong. You're talking the IRS hub nut I assume as from what I can find, the axle itself has a spline at both ends that slip into the inside of the hub and the transmission.

EDIT Went by this afternoon and discovered that the outer axle boot has been punctured. It must have been on the opposite side when I was there on Saturday as I was only rocking the axle back and forth to make the creaking. Had a helper turn the opposite wheel today both before and after removing the hub and all was revealed. You can see it early in the video but I was more to the left and it was hidden from view.

I assume it's a universal inside the boot rather than a CV but that makes me wonder why the boot. Anyhow, I will take some photos and post them to help others in the future.

I managed to get a copy of the parts manual today, unfortunately the axles are only sold as a unit.
There's a circlip on the inner splined end, much like a vehicle CV joint and the outer end incorporate the short axle stub with hub spline and thread for the hub nut.
Left and right sides are different part numbers, I assume different lengths but am not solid on that.
Left axle is J0B-518F-00-00
Right Axle is J0B-518G-00-00

I still haven't worked out how I can post images here, this one is from the internet.

Cheers,
Rob

Axles are pretty cheap but the customer is tight with their money so they are just going to run it until it stops. It's a hire cart for a local course, makes you wonder at times.

I'll add more if and when it gets repaired.

Cheers,
Rob

I just purchased a 2017 drive2 EFI and my rear axle does identically the same thing. No punctures on the seals and only a few hours on the cart. It runs fine but is an annoyance. I’m hesitant on removing the boot to inspect since I don’t have the right crimp clamps to reinstall. If you have any ideas, please let me know.

Thanks
