G2 starts good than falls flat
My G2 has been running slower for the last year. Now it starts without choke, runs good for about 100 yards than falters to 2or 3 mph. I have new plug, fuel filter and compression is 150.If we push when running slow it will pick up and move better for another 100 yards. Fuel is new. Uses fuel a lot more than it did. Use cart on weekends not every day. Change oil every year. I do need to lube clutch. Any possible answers to speed loss?

Re: G2 starts good than falls flat
Check your drive belt and clutches. Could be slipping.

Re: G2 starts good than falls flat
You don't. Measure the width of the drive belt. If it's less than about 1 1/8 inch approx, it's worn. if it's less than an inch then it's really worn.
Check clutch operation. The belt should smoothly transition from the outside of the rear clutch to the inside, while the front clutch does the opposite (goes from the inside of the clutch to the outside). |

Re: G2 starts good than falls flat
Have Plowman belt, i believe 3 years old, that measures 1 and 3/16. Clutches work correct. Did not have grease gun, still need to lube front clutch. With cart jacked up ,power still faded under no load. Air filter tight, no gaps.Any ideas? Front clutch closed quickly at first, after running a bit and letting it rest, it took about 10 seconds to close.

Re: G2 starts good than falls flat
You just need a tiny bit of grease. If you put too much in it will spatter on your belt. Just a tiny pump is all you need.
If the clutches are good, then it must be engine performance that is your issue. Basic tune up is first. Since you did the spark plug and fuel filter, check the air filter, and use some fresh gas. Could be dirt or varnish in the carb, maybe remove the carb and clean it out really good? |

How is your valve lash ? Many seem to overlook this needed task.

Re: G2 starts good than falls flat
Have gauge in truck to check lash. .004. Fuel new this week. Air filter looked new,3 year old plowman version. I did run octain boost in last tank. Sprayed carb, did not do a total tear off clean. 1 pump on grease next visit. Thank you for the ideas.

Re: G2 starts good than falls flat
I have done all I can. My son will tear down the carb soon and then go from there. I am starting to think the spark plug could be a problem. What ever it is,it doesn't happen till the engine warms up. It moves slow but if we push it when running it picks back up.

Re: G2 starts good than falls flat
When it is running slow, if you stop and go again is it still bogged? Or does it go right back to full power until you get going faster?
May be a failing ignition coil. At higher rpm still sparking, but maybe not a "full" spark if that makes sense. You could also put the motor on TDC. Then use a bit of white out or something and mark the top of the primary clutch st 12 o'clock. Put a timing light on it and run the engine. When it runs "good" you'll see the timing at 15-20° advance. Then when it runs bad see if it is retarding the timing or if spark gets erratic. I dont think these are "smart" enough to retard the timing but you may be able to see a difference. Its not an exact measurement since there are no timing Mark's but itll give you a ballpark idea Cleaning the carb is never a bad idea. But I'm doubtful the problem is the carb. Just to confirm, is it an OEM carb? It should say mikuni on the side. Not mokini |
