Default 2008 drive gas transaxle

here is the deal i can jack my cart up and the rear wheels will spin when i press on gas but i can hold both rear wheels with my hand and stop them. so i took the transaxle out the cart and broke it open and everything looks fine . if i turn the shaft to clutch goes on both rear axles turn but i can also hold the axles and turn the clutch shaft the axle stop turning but the clutch shaft will keep turning what is going on ?

When you say " i can hold both rear wheels with my hand and stop them", are you truly holding both rear wheels still at the same time? It's an open differential so it should allow one wheel at a time to be stationary while the other turns. If BOTH wheels are held stationary at the same time while the transaxle input shaft turns, something is wrong: stripped splines, missing woodruff key, something along those lines.

Is the engine actually running? Or is the starger/gen turning the belt?

slonomo brings up a good point I missed. When you say you "turn the clutch shaft" are you turning the drive clutch (on the engine) or the driven clutch (on the rear end)? if the engine is turning over on the starter, but not running / accelerating / closing the drive clutch on the belt - the starter can be turning the engine but the drive belt slipping on the clutch and not actually turning the input shaft into the transaxle.

That's what I was thinking.
