Default Starter engages but wont start or move

I have a Yamaha gas cart. # jg5-401183. Recently purchased. Seemed to start losing power and bogging down once it was ran for awhile. Then it had to be towed.Starter engages but it wont fire or move. I searched other threads so here's the low down... I have spark & fuel, & i can see front clutch tightening up when its turning ovr. Other than a compression test i haven't seen another troubleshooting option in the threads i went through. Unless theres a bare wire somewhere or something prohibiting it from firing.. any other suggestions would be great before i resort to dynamite and a BFH!

The magic combination to run is: Spark, fuel & compression. You say you have spark & fuel, so next step is to do a compression check. If you don't have a tester they can be rented from most of the auto part chains. Before we start chasing uncommon possibilities, please check compression and report back. There is a wealth of information here, and you'll find many people willing to help. But lets cover the basics first please.

You didn't say if you pulled the spark plug out or not. Pull the spark plug and see if it's fouled. It should be clean without any black soot or oil.

I'd like to add to the "list to run"

1. Fuel
2. Compression
3. Spark
4. Air - check the air filter and make sure it isn't plugged up. To run you need a good "air to fuel ratio", if the filter is plugged up it will make the a/f ratio too rich and it will foul the spark plug.

Also, you can spray some starting fluid/ether in the carb and try to get it going. Sometimes if the carb is gummed up it just needs a little help to get it to start. If the spark plug is dirty/fouled, clean it off with some carb cleaner and a toothbrush, or better yet replace it.

If you have air, spark, compression, and fuel to the carb.....then the carb will need to be removed and serviced or replaced. The tiny passages inside the carb get gummed up over time and will cause less flow, causing poor air/fuel ratios. If a passage is plugged, it often won't run. No way to tell unless you pull the carb off and inspect it. If you pull it apart and see dirt and debris....there's your issue. If the carb is original/old then it's time for a service. People often will store the carts in the winter with fuel in them which causes lots of problems unless the fuel is treated.

If you buy a carb, get a factory one, not a cheap China brand. There are certain parts that factory parts are a must, the carb is one of them.
