Probably his best bet Ron, I had to fab a rod holder that holds the rod between the govenor and the exhaust on my 81 G1. I tried leaving it hang but I couldn't open it up it just chugged along. But now its running great.

This may sound rediculous but what if you were to put in an inline squeeze ball. When you do need the choke you could use that. I understand it would be choking it by adding fuel instead of reducing air but it may work.

They are popular with outboard marine engines, they just mount inline with the fuel line and by squeezing them it just sends extra fuel to the carb, I have seem them used on many small engines, they may work in this application.
