Default G1 Repower Options

Not sure if this is better here or on the Electric Yamaha page, but was wondering what, gasoline motors, people have successfully repowered Electric G1s with while keeping the ability to go into reverse? Been thinking about raiding the lawn tractor section of the local scrap yard.

The rear axles look the same, but are they?

Thanks
Rich C.

Neither the G1 gas axle, nor G1 electric axle features a "reverse gear". They actually run the G1 2-stroke backwards to give reverse. A 2-stroke doesnt care what direction it spins, as long as the ignition system can handle it.

I know the rear end has no reverse gear, which is why Im asking what people used while keeping the ability to go into reverse. i.e. alternate reversable 2 cycle, std engine plus mower transmission, etc...

you can swap the Yamaha Enticer 250 top end but the power band changes drastically, from 1500 to 4500 on the G1 to something like 3500 to 7500?? from my understanding here the power band isn't very friendly.

Or you can do a Yamaha 250 Brave sled engine swap (not a direct fit) and use the G1 electronics on it. Ill post links. Supposedly the Bravo engine had a more friendly power band.

On the G1 G3 facebook page ive seen a few drop in predator 390?? then make a setup to use the starter gen for reverse. yes it can be done, how well it works and how long it will last I have no idea. Trikes and other applications used electric motors for reverse for years but they were designed to do so.

Lol, mikeasis honda goldwing "starter powered reverse" comes to mind. I cant think of any 2-stroke alternatives that are setup for reverse operation that havent been mentioned. I didnt mean to offend anyone by describing how G1a does reverse.

Maybe you can swap in a G2 transaxle or something that has a reverse gear? (I'm not familiar with anything that came between G1 and G16-22)

I've dont the Enticer top end on a G1 bottom end with a Plowmans muffler, ran really good. Not Vtwin power, but more than stock and good top speed.

I also have swapped out the G1 rear end for a G2/G9 style and installed several different 4 stroke big block engines. Worked out well.

The power and torque difference in the big blocks was well worth the cost and effort.

As RayHD said, getting a 4 stroke cart might be the easier route, but might cost more.

He is starting with a sparky here not even a G1 with a 2 stroker. Find a 4 stroke gasser with a broken engine in that $200-400 and do whatever IMHO is going to be easier and probably cheaper in the long run.
