Sluggish Starts and Stalls On Hills / G1
Hi everyone. I just bought a 1886 G1 yesterday that has a couple problems. First problem is that you have to ride the choke for about 30 seconds when you start off or else it will just crawl for about 30 seconds until it picks up speed. If the engine is good and hot, I might not have to use the choke but I do have to baby the throttle some to get it up to speed. Seems very sluggish taking off. After about the first 30 seconds, it seems to run good and smooth. Also, It is very sluggish trying to climb hills. I tried driving up my steep driveway today and it actually stalled completly out. Any Ideas??? It does have a new spark plug and a new air cleaner in it. The guy I bought it from said he thought it might be the little thin black diaphram that works as sorta a flapper that is located just below the carb. Anyone have any other ideas or know what diaphram I am talking about???

Re: Sluggish Starts and Stalls On Hills / G1
I just checked the compression but not sure what kind of psi reading these old 2 stroke motors are suppose to have. Mine checked out at 122 psi on the compression test. What is the good range for compression on a 1986 G1?

Re: Sluggish Starts and Stalls On Hills / G1
UPDATE!!!!! HELP!!!!!
I just took the carb off and cleaned it real good. I put it back together. I then raised the rear wheels off the ground and it took several spins of the motor to get gas into the carb bowl but once it did, it sounded like it was really running good. After about 45 seconds, it started to flood out and then gas came pouring out of the carb overflow hose. I drained the bowl and took the flooded plug out and cleaned it. I started it again and it ran decent but the whole time it was running, gas was pouring out of the overflow hose from the carb bowl. Any suggestions? The ajustment set screw was originally set all the way in and then backed out 3 3/4 turns. |

Sounds like the float in the carb is sticking or out of adjustment.
