Headlight question
Hi all. Just joined the forum a few days ago. Lots of good info. My question is on my G14 I have to put lights on it to meet campground req. Can I ground the lights to the frame and run the ground leg from the switch to neg side of the battery? or does everything need to be grounded to the battery?
Thanks guys Dave |

Re: Headlight question
Ground to frame. If you run a heavy duty toggle switch you can cut the power wire and install the switch where you make the cut. Or you can use a heavy duty light wiring harness that comes with a relay and switch. Still grounds to the frame though. I have always grounded everything to the frame and have never had a problem. I take my carts through the mud all the time and then drive it through the lake to clean it

Re: Headlight question
Not sure how, my g9 has lights grounded to the frame. Never had any problems. Even on my electric carts.

Re: Headlight question
9 times out of 10 grounding to the frame will blow the main fuse. Ground to the neg. post of the battery.

Re: Headlight question
Thanks for all the info guys. Looks like I'll run from +bat to switch to the lights and back to battery.

Re: Headlight question
One reason the Yamaha guys recommend all accesories "ground" back to the battery is all gas Yamaha's from G1's to Your G14 had a "TCI" ignition system. Bad ground...Bad spark. Not a bad idea to upgrade your main wire harness fuse to a 20 amp also.

Good one Smallblock. That could save a lot of headache further down the line. I learn something new every time I check in here. Thanks.

Re: Headlight question
Guys, I installed some lights today and now no spark. I grounded to the frame (should have logged into Buggies first!). Does anyone know what I blew? I checked the fuses and they all look good.
