89 G2 air filter

I just acquired an 89 G2. The airbox is cracked at the bottom but could be fixed. I'd like to get a little more performance out of it. Is there anything to be gained by adding the pod filter and changing or drilling the jet? Could I do anything with the exhaust to help it any? As it is now, you have to play with the choke to keep it running.
