Default Yamaha g2 on hills

I have a 1987 g2a gas cart that I use for golf. It runs ok on flat ground but I am having a problem going up hills. I have a new drive belt, spark plug, carb cleaned and adjusted. It starts and goes good but cant make it up the hills anymore. Any suggestions?
thanks

Welcome!!

You should have a grease fitting on both the front and rear clutch. Give them
each two pumps with a grease gun and see if that helps. Let us know.

Note: two pumps only, too much grease will cause other problems.

Went today and greased both. Also took off the primary clutch cover, all the weights are free moving and seem to be ok. (cleaned also) Still not climbing very well. Could the secondary clutch spring need replacing? Loose tension with age?
thanks!

Yep, that's next. You could install a new stock spring or a high torque spring.

Using this strictly for golf is there any real advantage with the high torque spring? There are no mods done to this cart.

Yea, I think it makes the cart more fun to drive. It will really take off better with the new spring and should not hurt top speed too much. I always had over-sized tires so I guess my carts need a little help. Best cheap up-grade you can get.

If it runs ok when there's no real load on it but dies when you put a load on it, I think a compression check is in order. And being a 1987, you're most likely looking at rings and a piston or a top end job.

Checked and compression is 152. Not tops but should be fine for now. I think the secondary spring is worth the try!

Check the front motor mounts and make sure the inside rubber part is not wore out and letting the engine move back to far under a load. Also check the tension cable under the air filter box and make sure it is adjusted tight.
