At what point does it stop being a starter and become a generator?

Re: Stupid starter/generator ?
In my understanding...Once the engine is turned over (by the starter) and the elctronic ignition is fireing and the engine is running, the the starter turns to the charge coil feilds and thru the voltage regulator, charges the battery at 14.5 to 15.5 volts @2500 rpm. Hope that helps.
