'95 G14 fires, won't start
New coil, CDI, plug wire + boot, and ignitor pick up coil. Pick up coil is approx. 3/8" away from the flywheel but my experience tells me it should be closer to 1/8". Fires every time if I wave a screwdriver back and forth in front of the pick up. There seems to be no adjustment to move the pick up closer to the flywheel so it can recognize the gap in the flywheel when it comes around. Stumped?..? Please help!

Air gap between the coil and flywheel should be .015 to .017 (@ thickness of a matchbook cover).
If you have a gap of 3/8 or .375, you have the wrong coil. Do you have the old one to compare to? |

Re: '95 G14 fires, won't start
I bought the cart used so I can't be sure the coil is the right one. The new coil is exactly the same as the one that was in the cart when I got it. I bought my new coil from the Yamaha dealer and it was the exact part number listed in the parts manual not a substitution. That's what has me baffled.

Perhaps a wrong ID for your cart?

Re: '95 G14 fires, won't start
I believe I have ID'ed it properly but I will double check for sure. I will try to get some pic's up on it this weekend (maybe tonight). EVERYTHING else works and I have finally narrowed it down to the right area. I am SOOOOO close that this is just absolutely frustrating. I can only hope it is simply a mis-identification of the proper pick-up coil.

Re: '95 G14 fires, won't start
I have verified the ID on the cart. It is definately a '95 G14 gas cart. I have attached some photos of the gap I have and there is no adjustment to move the pickup closer to the flywheel. I also have the serial number of the engine. Is there someplace I can go to verify that the engine is teh original engine or at least the correct engine for my cart?

Have you tried a new spark plug?

FISHING DUDE....I have not replaced the plug but what would a new plug do here if I am getting spark every time I trip the pick-up coil. It seems to me that the plug fires when told to do so but for some reason it is not being told to fire.
