yamaha gas golf cart. runs off and on

First when it stoped running i found that it was only clicking at the selenoid and i changed the starter/generater that was from a parts cart. it ran fine and then stopped a few days later. i could manually turn the starter belt and help it get running while holding the gas but that didnt last long. i switched back to the previous starter and its doing fine again. not sure how long it will last. Im just not sure what the problem was exactly. all i can think of is a weak battery.
