Clutch or engine problems?
Every now and then my 95 G-14 will act up,with it floored it will be slow and after coasting to a stop it will backfire out of the exhaust.While cruising around like this it will all of a sudden take of and run normal,when this happens it's like hitting the NOS button..just BAM and it's good.
Plug shows just a tad rich. If I grab the belt in between the clutches and pull up on it,the secondary clutch should open(hard but it will) and when I let go it should snap shut right?(cause it doesnt) The butterfly is closing all the way with foot off the pedal. I suspect the clutch isnt working right,both clutches have been greased. any input is appreciated |

Check the spring and the ramp shoes on the secondary clutch. The spring
could be broken. Shoes could be worn out. |

Shoes are good,and the spring is pretty new...but I guess it could be broke already.

oops,It does have BUs heavy spring and the cart did this once or twice before installing that.

Ok,new stuff to chew on.
I'm pretty sure it's not in the clutches,as I stated in my original post,that when I pulled up on the belt the clutch wouldnt shut,well DUH if you pull up on the belt,the part you cant see goes UP into the clutch keeping it open I did take the secondary apart and checked it to be sure. Tonight,as I was playing with it(in my unlit barn)I noticed the pipe going into the muffler getting red hot then when I let off the gas I noticed a bright glow toward the rear of the cart,so I tried it again,pipe got hot,I let off the gas,moved around to the rear of the cart and noticed the rear of the muffler glowing red hot,so hot you could actually see flames. Early in the year it back fired and split the rear of the muffler open in a half circle shape not much bigger than a quarter. What gives?Could my muffler be full o' stuff? Thanks again. |

Just got of the phone with plowmans.He said thats a common problem on the G-2,9 and 14.He also said if its getting that hot,I'm lucky it didnt suck the exhaust valve into the motor They have a replacment for $159.
Should I just buy it or cut and gut mine? |

Much cheaper to modify the one you have if you have the tools.

Cut it open, clear it out, weld it back together. How loud do you want it to
be?? |

I really dont want it too loud.
It almost seems like there might be something loose,thats flopping around and plugging it up sometimes,cause like I said,it doesnt do this all of the time. I was thinking about cutting of the tail pipe and starting there?Leaving enough on the back of the muffler so I can weld it back on. |
