g14 rear end noise?
My g14 seems to be making a noise from the rear end (I think) while going down the road. It is like a rattling. It has grease. The gov. is unhooked and I was wondering if it shouldn't be flopping back and forth. I also noticed that the driven clutch has some slight side to side play. Something I should take apart or just un until it gets worse?

Re: g14 rear end noise?
Could be a worn bushing in the driven clutch. You can zip tie the gov arm to keep it from flopping.

Re: g14 rear end noise?
I would replace the bushing on the driven clutch it can damage the input shaft if it gets real bad.

Re: g14 rear end noise?
I zipped tied the gov. and it still does it. The clutch has a in and out type of play. I guess it is the input shaft. Maybe I described it wrong? Also, I have put a new belt on it and the belt still sits down in the clutch a bit. 1/8" or so. See some pics on here where the belt sits above the top. Is my clutch worn out. seems to go fine.

Re: g14 rear end noise?
Do you hear a "growling" noise and feel a "vibration in the seat of your pants or do you hear metal grinding ? Secondary noises can be (like Ron/TNG said) worn sliding sheave bushing (witch is replaceable) or it could mean the circlip or input shaft groove that holds the circlip (that holds the spring seat away from the transmission case) has been damaged and now the spring seat is hitting the transmission case. Both are fixable. Let us now and a picture would also help. Later dave

Re: g14 rear end noise?
It vibrates when you are going at top speed. The rattle type noise seems to happen when I have it under power. Think something is just loose? Hard to look and drive at the same time!!

Re: g14 rear end noise?
i would agree with dave.
the secondary sheave bushing is worn out, or the circlip has broken. or maybe the input shaft bearing or gear is gone? a pic would tell us tons |

Re: g14 rear end noise?
OK, I think my noise was missing bolts in the muffler. I put two in and itt seemed to make a difference. Here is a pic of my clutch anyhow. That is a new belt. Do you guys think it rides high enough? Looks like it sits low to me.
Also I have notices grease coming from the vent on the rear-end. I lifted the cart 5 inches. Could it just be the new angle of the rear-end? |
