Default Need help with cart problem

1999 model. The cart has two problems. Both may be related. When pressing the accelerator pedal, the cart starts up as normal but then lurches forward when the drive belt engages. It's impossible to go at a slow speed right now. Half pedal to wide open it's fine. While traveling at top speed, the clutch hung up while holding the drive belt at its tighest position. I removed the sheet metal cover and found one of the three clutch arms had swung all the way out. I removed the pivot screw and reinserted it correctly into the clutch assembly.

Here's my question. Are both of these problems related to a worn out drive belt? What measurements need to be taken of the belt to determine state of wear?

Thanks!

Your drive belt on your G16 should be 1 3/16 x 39. Usually if they are wore out they will be wore more on the sides and shiny looking. Sounds like you have a drive clutch problem as well. Make it is greased and not sticking.

Wish I could be home working on my cart or better yet riding it.

Yeah, feel sorry for ya man! I took the day off to try and get this thing going.

I measured the belt width. It measured 1.161" using calipers. That's slightly less than the 1.188" you listed. Is that worn enough to replace?

Here's a pic of the belt.

I assume the 39" belt dimension was the outside circumference? If so, I used a fabric tape and measured 40".

Looks a little worn. I usually replace mine when the cart stops pulling very well up hills or pulling my small bush hog. Usually the sides of the belt are even: meaning to top edge is the almost the same width as the inside edge. Doesn't look like your belt is slipping though. Usually they are shiny on the edges if worn and slipping. If its not pulling, replace it and keep this one as a spare. They are only around $20. I always make sure I have a spare myself.

Here's a shot of the primary and secondary clutch. Notice the pulleys have been worn all the way out to their full diameter. Is this normal??

Clutch pulleys look fine to me. Are you talking about the small lip on the drive clutch? If so, that is normal and made that way. You definitely need a new starter belt.

Yeah I'll get that belt replaced, too! Hahahah. I think I've gotten my money's worth out of it.

Perhaps the picture doesn't show it well, but the belt is indeed shiny on it's sides. The sides are also angled.

That being said, would this cause the lurching on takeoff?
