1991 G9 starting problems
Hey guys, this is my first post. Great forum and have been trolling this place for the last few months while shopping for a cart. The info ive found has been incredibly valuable and i hope i can be a valuable member in the future. Anyways..
I recently purchased a Yamaha G9 gas golf cart. It was not running when i got it. I cleaned it up, replaced the oil, fuel, spark plug, etc. and got it all prepped for the road. It ran great for about an hour. Then it seemed to just die. The starter would be turning the belt but the engine wasn't firing like it was before. I thought it might have been a clogged carb. So i cleaned the carb, re-hooked everything up, and it ran great again.. for an hour. Then it sputtered out and wouldn't run just like before. So after giving it a closer look its come to my attention that the motor isn't running with a fuel pump. The gas is gravity fed from a mounted tank out back which flows directly to the carb. Could this be the cause of my problems? The line has plenty of pressure and fuel.. maybe its getting too much fuel and its flooding? When i remove the fuel line, clear the float bowl, let it dry out for an hour or two and then re-hook everything up, its runs great for a couple laps around the block.. Then it resorts back to the same sputtering and not running. The engine sounds strong, is very responsive, and doesn't backfire at all when it is running. I have a fuel pump on order to return it to the stock setup. I'm just curious to see if any of you have seen this before. Thanks! |

Welcome to BGW!
I think it should run on the gravity feed. Does the fuel tank have a vent? Maybe creating a vacuum and stopping flow. |

The tank does have an open vent so i don't think a vacuum is preventing flow. Will the carb stop the flow of fuel when the bowl is full even if its gravity fed?

Re: 1991 G9 starting problems
sounds like an electrical issue, i would say ignitor coil as they can quit when they get hot, which is what yours sounds like its doing, coils are around $50
