Question 81 G1 Questions

Hey Yammy Guys,I got Questions:Is 125lbs ok on compression? What does the vacum line from the muffler to the oil pump do?I've got no oil at the carb, new in-line oil filter which is full of oil and oil is going to the pump. Also, what does the line from the oil tank to the rear-end do?The old girl has been sitting up for 2 years and I can't get her started.BBQ'd the muffler, cleaned the carb, inspected the reed valves, new gas in the tank.Pretty good spark at the plug,it will hit and run for a couple of seconds on carb spray. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I've got about the same problem with an 81, in that it won't run but has good compression (120 on mine), spark, gas, etc. I read about the crank seals being a possible problem but haven't changed those on my cart yet. Maybe they are your problem?? Look at some of the posts about the seals here for help.

Good Luck,

Bill

Welcome to BGW!

I'm not an expert but I believe 125 is pretty good from other threads I've read. Mine has 115 and runs pretty decent.

I think the oil line to rear end is just a breather/vent tube if it's like my '84.

Since it runs a moment on carb spray but dies, it lacks fuel. You might try spraying some where the crank shaft seal is behind the clutch. If it's not creating enough vacuum it may not be bringing the fuel/air mixture from the carb.

125 lbs is great! Like brand new! The hose from the muffler (jet sensor hose) tells the oil pump the pressure going thru the muffler so the oil pump adds more oil. There is a plastic cap and under the plastic cap is a bolt(hex head, but with a philips in the center) it is used to "bleed" the oil pump. It can be very time consuming to bleed and check the oil comeing thru the hose to the carb. I've one's thake take 15 minutes and yuo must suirt oil into the carb while doing this or damage will encure. The hose from the oil tank is a breather so you dont get "a vapor lock" situation in the tank. Does it help if you choke it? With that great compression, could be crank seals, could be fuel pump or even a "cracked" rubber fuel line. If you drained the tank, I have found you may need to help "prime" the system. Those fuel pumps really are'nt stong enough to "pull the gas up the pick up tube. Is there gas in the fuel filter? Take off the gas cap, take out the tank vent and grommet, cover the gas filler hole and blow into the tank vent hole.(while doing this have someone turn the engine over and use the choke) You should see gas going into the filter. Good luck Dave

Thanks to all for the responses, now I know a little bit more about what is going on.Actually,Dave,I am getting fuel to the cylinder, the spark plug is wet.I'm pretty sure the spark is strong enough so I am leaning toward the seals after reading the threads that have the same problems.

Is it mandatory that the engine be removed to replace those seals or can it be done with the engine installed?

It can be done with the engine in the cart. Just pull out the gas tank.
