Default Yamaha Driven clutch question

I have the opportunity to pick up a Yamaha from a dealer that has a driven clutch issue. It seems to be stuck in the "open" position for lack of a better term. Instead of the belt riding up high like it starts out it is all the way down on the shaft. What is the most likely culprit and around how much money would I be looking at to fix it? I just wanna have a rough idea before I but the cart to make sure I won't be spending more money on it than it is worth. I am not sure of the year as I forgot to look, but I figure this would be a fairly generic problem.

It may be just a broken spring or worn buttens or a loose lock ring
or a broken clutch [COLOR="red"] Try our sponsors for good deals.

Okay, hoping not for the last of those options, but the spring or any of those other parts isn't horrible because I was going to most likely replace them over time anyway. I was looking at CPP for some pricing earlier before I posted. Would you recommend doing just the power kit with the spring and spacer or going ahead and do the kit with the belt, sheave, puller and all? Assuming it is the spring of course. When I start tearing this thing down I hope it will be obvious what the problem is, and hopefully not the whole clutch. Thanks!

Did you ask the dealer what the problem was?

Yeah but he said the guy who's cart it is bought a new cart instead of fixing this one. I saw all the shop notes and the guy is a good guy, but he said that his customer said just take a quick look at it and let me know what the worst case would be. Obviously worst thing would be the whole thing so he quoted the 270 or whatever it was for the new clutch. That along with a tune up including belt and labor stared getting up there so the guy just bought a used one from him. I would have him pull the thing apart but I like doing that kind of stuff myself plus I would have to pay for the shop time even if I didn't buy the cart.

The owner bought a differant cart rather than fix it for 270.00? Sounds like he wanted to upgrade or he wanted out of the other problems with the cart. What is the asking price? Can you take pic's? I hate people getting "burned" I don't understand why the dealer wouldn't fix it and sell it, if it is a solid cart otherwise. If a used cart trade has so many problems, we just wholesale it out or sell as is, because we warranty even our used carts. Good luck what ever you decide.

The cart has a lift kit(not blocks) and larger tires. It also already has a rear seat. The seats need to be reupholstered but I have a guy local guy that will barter for that. I will try to get pictures though. The body will need to be painted but again that was in the plans anyways so not a big loss. The asking price is 750 but I planned to lowball at 500 since the shop is simply selling it on consignment for the owner and he has replaced it. Just don't want to get burned.

Well, I don't think you could go too wrong at that price.....as long as the engine checks out.

I agree with Fint...You cant get anything for 500.00 to 750.00. Sometimes consighments can be a great deal. So, lets say you get it for 600.00, already has a lift and tires, the secondary needs new parts, if the engine is bad, bigblock it for say 2000.00. You've got a killer cart for 3000.00 and you can sell off the good used parts. I'm no rocket engineer, but that sound like fun!

Yeah and worst case with a bb I already have a honda 20hp that was rebuilt with only 5 hrs on it. It has a starter and generator on it too. I thought it sounded like a decent deal. What should I look for with the clutch? If it is the spring will it be broken or just stretched. Anything to look for will help because I am trying to get my money right to get it this weekend. Anyone wanna buy a 3 wheel ez go electric with no batteries..:haha. Come on 250 bucks anyone....no really. Haha
