Default Help me justify a big block

Ok so I had a set of rod bearing go bad on a J38 that was rebuilt in 06. I'm thinking it has a bad crank and a local rebuilder just didnt know better. So i'm trying to put numbers to paper for a 5 year plan. Heres what I got, tell me what you pros think.

J38 rebuild 550.00
shipping 70.00
crank 350.00
tune-up kit 75.00

Here are a couple things i'm thinking that will need to be replaced with-in the next 5 years.

Starter 175.00
drive clutch 200.00

So I have a total of; 1420.00

An 18hp from CPP runs 1850.00 plus shipping and should run fine for 5 years.

Does all these numbers look on the up and up or am I forgetting something?

Looks right to me, over 5 years you may want to add in a couple belts though. It's hard for me to put a price on the gains of the 18hp, LOTS more power/torque, more top end, smoother running. I've had the CPP 18 installed for 3 + years now and I would not go back to a stock engine. I have never had any problems with mine, runs great. Takes about 2-3 hours to install and when you drive it you can't get the smile off of your face!! I would recommend the rev kit, it's cheap insurance.

You can but I wouldn't advise it..... I would actually recommend using the key start, you will have a lot more HP added and a "reverse start" could be downright dangerous, especially if there are little ones around.. or a dog that likes to nap on the cart...... I haven't done it yet but plan to wire in a safety interlock to the nuetral position on my FNR, so it will only start in neutral.....

and by all means do the BB kit! I like your reasoning for it, wish I'd of thought it...the missus, ya know...........

14 mph to up to 25-30 mph ...... DO IT! You would not regret it.They run smooth, plenty of low end torque and parts are cheaper and more plentiful.
