Possible g-2 purchase
I am going to check out a G-2 today.
Ad: "I am selling a yamaha g-2 golf cart that i have. I rebuilt the motor 2 years ago and have not used it. It does not have a sun visor but runs great." Asking price seems to be pretty good --- $500 --- but is there anything special I need to look for? I've never owned a cart before, but I am looking for something to ride around my (mostly) flat 60 acres to check irrigation lines, fences, etc and possibly some mild off-road play as well as gravel road transport... you know, a perfect do-everthing rig! LOL Future plans call for slightly larger tires, maybe a few minor engine mods, a top/ROP, ect. Comments? |

Re: Possible g-2 purchase
That is one heck of a price if it runs.

Re: Possible g-2 purchase
G2's are good carts and that is a great price! Just make sure the frame is not all rotted out.

Re: Possible g-2 purchase
I just paid $500 for mine, in great shape but experiencing issues with the motor freeing up from sitting for a while. Seems to be a good price.

Re: Possible g-2 purchase
Check the frame, especially around the battery area (there will more than likely be some rust). Drive it up a big hill if possible and if it pulls ok and everything else looks pretty good, get it.

Re: Possible g-2 purchase
Well, there were no hills around and the guy lives in town so I just drove it up and down the street a couple times - a bit "cold blooded" but it was just starting to warm up and respond when a cop drove by - the nosy neighbor couldn't take it. But I did find out it ran and moved both forward and backwards.
No rust problems - we are in the desert area of Eastern Washington - and everything looked and sounded pretty good. Seat us ripped/worn in one corner, no windshield or top, but the tires look OK (stock) and the motor revved pretty good with the choke on. Seller said he rebuilt the engine 2 years ago - crank turned, new piston/rings - but moved into town before he got it put back together. He just installed the engine about a month ago - new belt, etc visible - and didn't hook up the governor (its just sitting on the engine disconnected) and says it should do 35mph! I think that is a bit of a stretch but I haven't tried it because I just got it off the trailer in the dark. Anyway, I gave him the $500 he was asking. I hope it is as good as I hope! What's next? Lights? It gets dark pretty early these days! Top/cab? Its getting colder! Lift/tires? How much lift? Is 4" enough to get some decent rubber under it? Remember, I'm a newbie and am looking for lots of advice/suggestions from you experienced Buggers! I can't afford to make too many mistakes and would rather do it right the first time! :-) Thanks. You guys have been great so far! |

Re: Possible g-2 purchase
Sounds like a good buy for a running G2, very solid cart.
My G2 was cold natured until I pulled the carb, did the teardown and a good soaking in carb cleaner. Almost never use the choke now. You can do an econo lift and 22" tire combo for pretty cheap. Top and supports are going to be hard to come by. If you can find "any" top you could weld up a 1" sq. tube frame or have a muffler shop bend you up a roll bar looking roof support like I did with this Ezgo top. |

Re: Possible g-2 purchase
Econo lift and 22s sounds like what I want to do (for now). And I plan on fabricating a top - one I can remove pretty easily so I can take the cart into the orchard when I want. having a rack of some sort up there will probably be investigated. But what is an "econo lift" (besides cheap)? Is there a specific type? 3-4 inch? What is the "Z" lift that is so terrible?
I'm on my way out to give the cart its first real "run" right now - to my in-laws place about 3/8 mile away. Don't want to go too far until I'm more sure of the engine. Thanks for the help, advice and suggestions, guys ! |

Re: Possible g-2 purchase
Check the model and serial number on it, I think that is a later model G9
Either way, good solid carts and it looks like you got a clean one. |
