New g9 cart -- was "possible g2 purchase"
I thought I would start a new thread since I did buy the cart and have discovered it isn't a g2 but a G9.
Anyway, yamahag9er wrote "Looks like a good buy Pat L. You won't regret it. Those are good solid carts and there are some cheap and easy things you can do to pep them up a little bit." I'm interested in hearing suggestions as "cheap and easy" is almost my nickname! I've read that there are some "not too good" ways of raising a cart - what are the methods I should avoid and what are the cheap ways of doing a decent job? I don't want to go too high -- just enough to fit some 22" tires. Will 10" rims fit on my cart - right now it has 8" rims. Do I need to get wider wheels if I get bigger tires or will stock wheels work OK? Oh, one more thing... anybody else on this forum from E. Washington? Any "sponsors" in the NW? I guess this is all for now. Thanks, Pat |

Pat, what are you going to be using your cart for? Off roading, mud running, hauling...you get the idea.

Re: New g9 cart -- was "possible g2 purchase"
Off road - mostly cruising the pastures to check on/repair fences, work on irrigation, carry a few tools and parts, help move the cattle, etc. Also a bit of gravel road riding to get from here to there - have to go several miles to find any pavement
I want to lift it just a bit and put on some decent tires for traction - the pastures are a bit rougher than a golf course - but no real brushy areas to go through and not much mud (I WISH! We're in a desert area). I might hook a small trailer up to haul a bale of hay sometimes, but that is about the extent of the work it will do. I don't hunt -- heck, I have to chase 12-20 deer out of my alfalfa most nights during the fall and the turkeys spend lots of time in my "yard" - counted over 100 at one time a few years ago in my father-in-laws lawn! Mainly I just need transportation - I have a bad knee that is getting worse and I have trouble walking more than about 200 feet without my leg giving out. OK - that's probably more than you wanted to know, so I'll stop. If you need more specific info, just holler! Pat |

Re: New g9 cart -- was "possible g2 purchase"
I would suggest a basic 4" lift with 22-11X8 tires, keeping the stock rims will give you a taller sidewall and smoother ride.
Run the air around 4 to 6 lbs. Squirt about 10 to 12 oz of slime in each tire to reduce punctures way out in the back 40. Also consider a torque spring kit for some extra pull. Do a basic tune up on it and grease everything. Should be good to for a long while. |

Sounds like you have a great place for a cart. In my opinion, with the lift, there is a reason they call it an econo lift, not the greatest. With what you are using the cart for I would do it once and be done. 6" Jake's with 22" tires and add the power spring kit for the rear clutch. You will be happy and have no problems. Again, just my opinion!

Re: New g9 cart -- was "possible g2 purchase"
Pat, these guys know what they're talkin about. Spend the extra for the Jakes 6" A arm, it will make the ride a little more forgiving and the cart will actually be easier to get in and out of, especially if you're taller. Keep the stock rims and just get the bigger tires and the torque spring, make your own receiver hitch and you will be good to go!

Sounds like what I want to hear - doing things once and getting it right... that's why I ask before I start "doing". I have learned!!
Thanks, guys. Gives me something to work on this winter. |

Re: New g9 cart -- was "possible g2 purchase"
Looks like I will be searching for the best deals I can find on tires, clutch, lighting kit 6"lift. Also will be keeping my eyes open for a top/windshield (went out for a 2 mile run this AM and it was COLD!!! ) I might even contact some local golfers to see if they know of any "parts" carts I might be able to scavenge a top from... well, there's a chance, anyway.
I do like what I've found of this forum ... knowledgeable and helpful people willing to share what they know to help others. Even some of the non-Yamaha people seem nice (despite what I've been told! :-) |
