Yes. Whats a rectifier doing in your cart? No. There not. Sounds like you have a bad wire harness.

Poformance, I was just messin with ya. The charging circuit consist of the starter/generator, wire harness, voltage regulator and a good battery (that will acept a charge). Disconnect the red and green wires coming out of the starter. Using a volt meter, you should read 5 OHMS (if not, bad charge windings in feild of starter, doesn't happen very often). Now check for continuity (in the wire harness) from the red and green wires from the starter to the voltage regulator connection (if you don't already know, the regulator is on the plastic inner rear fender, just to the right of the battery). if all checks good so far, find a freind with a Yamaha from 1990 to brand new and ask to borrow there voltage regulator for a test (they are all the same). Volt meter on battery, put the cart in nuetral (half way between f/r) and start the cart and rev it up. Your volt meter should read 14.5 to 15.5 volts. Now why your cart isnt starting...still think its a wire harness problem. I would start with that problem first. Will try to post that later, my fingers are tired after this post. Good luck Dave

I've had the same problem with a G9. I'm not too familiar with the ground system in them. I couldn't get it to start, (no spark) and the engine would crank as soon as the battery was connected. (key on & off w/out pressing gas pedal) The solenoid was burning hot in 2sec and burnt out. I found that the wiring had several shorts in it and the Gen/Starter was brand new but the terminals were on the wrong post. I did so much to the wiring I don't know what I did to fix it. It finally got spark and started but it wasn't charging, instead it was drawing the battery down dead in 12sec. I put a brand new battery in it and for some reason it charges at 14.2 volts and runs fine now.

now only generator still not charging.checked ohms 5.4,cleaned all cables connections pig tails every thing that plugs in to somthing is clean and cables clean with a 1200 cranking amp marine battery that is 100 percent.
not showing but 12 volts at wot the ground cable gets warm.
please help. waiting on all bugs to get out before a rebuild and clucth work

I had similar problems with an old G9 I had. I finally ended up running down to Auto Zone and buying several different packages of different colored wire and making up a new wiring harness. Can't remember the guage wire I bought but it was little heavier than stock. That new wiring harness ended up being one of the best things I ever did for that cart. I simply laid out the old wiring harness from the cart and made up a new one like it. Then I cut, cleaned, and spliced in all the connectors from the old harness.

Did the entire harness sitting down by my creek in about 30 min's. Not difficult at all once you get the old one out.
