G16 vs. EZ GO Marathon
I have a 93 EZ GO with a clutch and exhaust mod that I use for towing my sons car at the race track...I m looking at getting something newer and have looked a nice G 16 for sale. My local Yama dealer told me that the G16 will not have as much towing power even with the spring mod because its a single cylinder comparied to the EZ GO 2 cylinder. The EZ GO barley gets the job done up here in Denver and Im nervious that the dealer is correct. What do you guys think ???

The dealer is correct. You could look for a newer & bigger 350cc motor or some simple clutch machining and rebuilding could be your best bet?

Re: G16 vs. EZ GO Marathon
Drop a BRAND NEW 350cc motor in the marathon. That's got to be cheaper than buying a newer cart? Just a thought - but your 1993 is 17 years old. Have you ever replaced the belts and clutches?

Re: G16 vs. EZ GO Marathon
so here is some history , i was given the Marathon from a friend a little worn but still usable. i use it to tow my sons 500 pound jr comp dragster then its myself and 3 more on the cart. at first i could do ok towing on the flats but would crawl going up the hill to the pits i replced the clutch with a 2 stroke clutch, new belt, tune up and the exhaust mod i found on this site. so after all the mods i was able to get up the hill, not fast but way better than stock.
now i have been looking at doing upgrades on my ez go like tires/wheels, new body moulding, floor mat, dash, paint or body wrap...when i price all of that i dont know if it makes sense to inveset in an older cart. i found a 00 g16, with custom paint, tires/wheels, seats, dash...etc for $1500 if i can sell my cart take the money from the ez go and what i would of spent on the upgrades im close to even. i just dont want to get the g 16 and it not be able to pull the dragster |

Re: G16 vs. EZ GO Marathon
Then make the deal! A 2 stroke clutch on a 4 stroke is killing your performance, plus like I stated before, the cart is probably pretty worn out! There are more parts available for a G16 over a Marathon...

Re: G16 vs. EZ GO Marathon
thanks for the info...so do you think that the G16 with tow as good or better than the Marathon ??
As far as the 2 stroke clutch, I bought that from my ez go dealer they said that it would help with the low end...and it did i could walk faster up the hill with the stock clutch...after i changed the clutch it did help. do you think the sold me the 28 degree clutch and not the 2 stroke ? thanks |

Re: G16 vs. EZ GO Marathon
The g-16 will pull the dragster and people fine and the are several mods you can do to increase power. Spring, carb, and air intake. You can get these from site sponsors Plowman's and Carts Parts Plus.

Re: G16 vs. EZ GO Marathon
Sorry if my info is "sketchy" as you put it, I never claimed to be a golf cart pro I came here looking for some help and I was told it was called a clutch...now if there is 2 different clutchs on the cart im sorry i would not know that.
