Default Re: Modifying Governor on G16 & G22

I recently bought a 1998 G16 and have been playing with the governor but nothing seemed to give anything past 18mph. I finally bypassed and connected the throttle cable directly to the carb. Instantly getting 25mph. Just hoping to get some advice on what top speed/rpms I should be watching for. I know I have to watch the revs downhill.

Dont go past 4000 to keep your engine. I have a g16 i could get mine to about 30 then it came apart. Crank got messed up due to the connecting rod breaking. Now i've got a 625 cc vegas carts engine and i get 41. Stupid fast and a little scary.

In my G9 I took the governor off and ran it to max speed hundreds of times. It would run 28-31mpg gps depending on surface and tire pressure. What happens is they get up above 4K rpm and valve float. If you run float a lot it can trash the engine, so best to not hit that. So I would hit top speed and let off some it was fine at that, and never went faster down a hill. I ran synthetic in it and eventually many years later the rings wore out and burned oil, so I put a 420 clone in it that is much more fun. This on 22 tires. Given I didn't ride roads all the time either, so full speed was only once in a while and not very far.
