Default Are carts supposed to idle?

I have driven lots of vehicles but this is my first golf cart. My question is are these things supposed to idle when you stop or just die and run when the gas is applied? Cart is a G9 have done some work on it still have a fuel issue but things are getting better. Have to apply the choke when going up hill, the fuel pump is my next check along with the filter. TIA, Craig

Yes they stop when you let up on the accelerator pedal. On your G9, disconnect the air cleaner box hose (at the carb) and fold it out of the way, now run the car, does it run better up the hill? If so you have an airbox problem. G9's are critical for airbox's sealing correctly.

nope, the micro switch for the starter/gen is attached to the peddle, so they turn off after you let off the gas

Well then I guess I don't have a problem with the idle. My other half had to tell me she thought it was supposed to be like that she has driven a couple that belonged to friends at the track. Sure dread the " I told ya so" she come back with.
I did try removing the air box inlet from the carb it did not seem to make any difference in performance.
Thanks all, Craig

yeah, cavecitynova, my motor shuts off completely too when I let off the accelerator.

But then, mines electric. BTW, don't tell your wife she was right. Just tell her it needed a little modification and you made it that way to save on gas but that the one she's talking about must have already performed that mod.
