Default rings

working on rebuilding my g2 engine. it was locked up, has since torn it down and had the cylinder bored. working now on attempting to install rings on the piston but having issue with the top ring. had no problem with the other rings by hand, but am thinking the top ring will have to compressed in the groove??

any ?

did you clean the groove ?

they normaly go in by hand

I break of an old ring & use it to scrape the sludge out , the ring needs to be a bit loose in its groove in order to work properly

i cleaned the groove, didnt really have to because its a brand new piston. piston and ring set bought from 3R.

I have used a zip-tie as a ring compressor before, worked well on a single ring.

i was thinking about using an oil filter wrench, but didnt try it just yet. Hard to believe none of the other rings were being difficult.

check it with an old ring you might have a mist match set or defective casting on the piston

you will need a ring compressor to get it in the cylinder

Make shure the "manufactures mark" on the rings (top and 2nd) are pointing up. Try the compression rings in both piston grooves to see if there is a differance in the fit. Make shur you "stager the rings per spec. I agree with Cart De Golf,, use a ring compressor to install.

pretty sure the piston is defective. i tried both rings for the center and top grooves, neither one of the rings would fit in the top groove. disappointing downtime.
