Secondary Sheave Removal and Ramp Shoe?
I have 92 Yamaha G9 gas and I got a power kit for the 2nd Sheave. After reading the Torque Kit Instructions and instructions with the kit, I have two problems:
1. I cannot get the nut for the outer sheave off. I will continue to soak in penetrating oil, but it is very difficult. Any suggestions besides the torque kit instructions? The 2x4 block keeps slipping also. 2. There are remains of ramp shoes on the helix. Do you have to have and use the ramp shoes? I got one replacement according to part numbers and it is not the same. The originals appear to have a plastic peg to hold in place and the part i was sent is shaped differently and uses a small cap screw to hold in place. Suggestions? Thanks for any help! |

Re: Secondary Sheave Removal and Ramp Shoe?
If worse comes to worse, use an impact. The wedge usually works for me. Be sure to wedge the piece of wood so it will 'tighten' again the edges of the sheave while loosing the nut. Its a bit tricky but usually works for me.
For your ramp shoes, I'm not sure what you got. Maybe post a pic. But yes, you do need them. Maybe you got a different design or something. Do you know if they will work or not. If they fit, I'd use them but if they don't look like they will work, I'd send them back and get the right ones. |

Not the best way but I had the same problem and I got a piece of round bar and got it wedged in between the spring and the helix. I ran the risk of breaking the helix but I didnt and the nut finally broke loose after my 300 lbs on a 2 foot cheater bar.

Sounds like you got the wrong buttons. The typical G9's are just like you described, push in. And yes you do need them in good shape!
Here's a pic from Yamaha parts site: |

as for your nut issues, try putting the cart in gear and puting the parking brake on then you are using the brakes to hold it still while you undo the nut. also remember it needs a cotter pin after your re assembling.

Re: Secondary Sheave Removal and Ramp Shoe?
Thanks Sabercat, that's the style I got on my G9. Where is the best place to get them. I matched the serial number to the diagram part number and a retailer I won't name sent me what must be the new style. I would guess that you push the old out and punch the new in? Maybe so grease of something to make it easier? The diagram Flintrock posted is the one I used to order the shoes and thats not the right style.

Re: Secondary Sheave Removal and Ramp Shoe?
The one I posted is a 1994, I think they used those from 91 or 92. Yours would be a part # 801-17688-10-00 ramp shoe, a local Yamaha dealer may be the best source.......
