Default Yamaha G2 ignitor

Hi all,

I have an old Gas Yahama G2 that suddenly wouldn't start. I took a look at the ignitor box and noticed the the wires were in REAL bad shape. It looks like someone just started ripping this thing apart before or for some reason it has REALLY bad wear. Anyhow, there are a couple of wires that got completely disconnected from the wire harness that plugs into the ignitor. Does anyone have a picture or diagram that show which wires go where into the ignitor plug / harness? Also, if anyone else has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Ah, right in front of my face! Thanks for pointing that out. However, they dont exactly have a diagram for a gas G2, but would it be safe to assume it is the same for a gas g8?

they look very similar.

What is the function of the ignitor?

It works like a CDI. Its function is to retard the timing at low rpm. It starts at 0 advance and above 1K rpm it raises up to max of ~30 degrees at 2500rpm. Possibly what some of the big block people would love to have. The pickup is mounted advanced, and at under 2500 it retards the timing. There is a graph showing it in my manual. Sometimes mine kicks back when starting hot, makes me think mine is getting bad and not retarding it but hard to tell without checking the timing.

Here is a G2 gas schematic. I cleaned it up from a really bad scan. Hope it helps!
