Re: straight pipe exhaust
it won't do anything good for power and could possibly hurt your engine if you don't rejet the carb to match your leaner straight pipe.
and if your going stright pipe you might as well go for a higher flow airfilter and then re jet and that will wake the motor up a bit. |

Re: straight pipe exhaust
Striaght pipe will DECREASE your performance, INCREASE the anger from your neighbors for the extra noise...

Re: straight pipe exhaust
There is no real benefit from looser exaust unless you're turning some serious rpms which is not good for these engines unless they are gone through and balanced and beefed up a bit. In other words stick with stock, Find HP elsewhere.

Re: straight pipe exhaust
Maybe he just wants to make noise? and has no neighbors? I say it will not hurt the 4 stroke near as much as it will hurt your hearing

Re: straight pipe exhaust
One Yamaha mechanic told me that some of the G1 years needed backpressure in the exhaust to run properly and some models, I think it was the '82, had a butterfly value between the exhaust port and the muffler to create this backpressure.
