Default G2 Clutch Falling Off

Hello Everyone, I finally joined!! Great site. We have a question for you all. We have a G2 with the yamaha clutch uprgade (sheave, belt, spacer). All installed very easily (with the tips from you all)-Thanks

Our problem is that when the motor is running the 17mm nut spins off (yes it was a new nut installed with a new cotter key, torqued down). When this happens the entire clutch assy comes off.

We have been scratching our heads on this one, does anyone have a suggestion??

Thank you!
JC

Hey jr, that's a new one! Did you put the "half moon" key back in it, correctly? What are you torqueing the nut at? Is it breaking the cotter key?

Mine done the same thing when I replaced the spring on my G2. It was the half moon key that did not seat properly. It did not feel right going back together. And when we took it for a run the secondary clutch just spun off as you said. We came back and put it together again and made sure the key was just right and it slid right on. I have not had a problem since and that was a year ago.

Jr., everything Flint said, lock tight the nut, let it sit for 24 hours. It should not come off. Mine is not lock tighted, in fact it's not even torqued, and it's never moved.
Are the threads buggered on ether shaft or nut?

It's gotta be the woodruff key, either that or the threads on the end of the input shaft are completely buggerdddd.

Hey folks thanks for the feedback. Here is a recap of the condition;
Threads on the end of the shaft are in good shape.
When the nut backs off it breaks the cotter key off.
The woodruff key is not perfect, and the milled area on the shaft is not perfect. Sounds like that might be the problem child. Does anyone know the size of the woodruff key?
I will try a new key and threadlock.
Thanks for the input!! It is much appreciated!!

Get the key and key way right, that's your problem. Don't loctite the nut.

Thanks for the pointers. This may be a dumb question but can a person put a half moon keyway in wrong? It will only go in one way right?
Thanks

The key will only go in one way, but it has to be the correct size. If it's sloppy, the sheave will wobble and come loose. To big, well it won't go in.
