Default New engine won't start!!!

OK...Thanks to all who answered my last questions. NOw I have another. I have the engine hooked up and have made several attempts to start(100's). For one reason or another it won't fire. I have fuel to the carb and aroung 18 volts to the spark plug. Everything turns freely. Voltage at battery is 12.4v, same at solenoid, starter/generator and 18 plus or minus to the spark plug. Pulled the plug to ensure it was getting fire to the tip and it sparks great. What can I check next? I have a dumb question also, what is the purpose of the "pickup" with relation to the rotor? If I can't get it figured out with y'alls help, I will be forced to take it to the shop. Thanks in advance.

One of the smart guys here told me that you need the basic 3,
Fuel
Compression
Spark
Youve checked spark so your down to compression and fuel.
Give us some details, year, model, is a rebuild or fresh from box new engine?

Stock engine, BB??

I have a 1995 G9. The motor is a stock rebuild. I haven't checked the compression, but with the plug out and the engine rotating, everything sounds good no harsh noises or anything.

If you can, pull the fuel feed line off and turn it over a couple times make sure your getting fuel to the carb.

did that 100 times also. Getting plenty of fuel to the carb. I am in my shop doing this as we speak. I know it has to be something simple.

It seems we are left with compression. You need to make sure you have enough for the motor to run?

If you in fact have all three and it still will not start, the fourth item I would check is the timing. It does no good to have the spark delivered at the wrong time of the piston travel. If all this is working correctly...Call Mike, he will get it working for you. Good luck.

Rodger and Mike are a couple of the smart guys I was talking about earlier. I never thought about the timing

Take the plug out and try to get your thumb as tight over the hole as possible, turn the motor over and it should blow by your thumb with a significant amount of pressure.
