Default Has anyone bored a tapered clutch?

A friend of mine and myself are fixing up a couple of carts salvaged from certain destruction at the scrap yard. One is a Yami G2 that we want to put a 16hp straight, keyed shaft, single cylinder engine into. We also have a good Duster clutch on a G2 engine that appears to be in great shape but is tapered to fit the G2 engine shaft.

My question is, has anyone had success boring out the tapered Duster clutch to fit a straight shaft engine and also cutting in a slot for the key? Clutches are getting hard to find and we would like to use this one if possible on the newer engine.

CPP sells a tapered adapter that fits into the clutch and then will fit a 1" shaft.

Thanks for the heads up on the adapter. As much time as I have spent on this board, you would think I would remember that. I do recall some replies now about the adapter you mentioned. Guess my search wasn't sufficient earlier on the board.

From a DIY perspective though, I still wonder if one had access to the machinery that would accurately bore the clutch, would there be enough "meat" there to function properly?

Again thanks for the info

I had it done with an ezgo clutch. don't know about the yamaha. If you can swing it get the cvtech 6 clutch. You'll be miles ahead just my 2 cents.

I was going to add the CPP adapter to a Yamaha clutch and bore the ID deeper to fit a 1" shaft. The problem I ran into was I need to machine off the pulley for the starter to gain some room. The pulley is where they had drilled holes for balancing the clutch assembly. If I machine the pulley off I believe the clutch would be out of balance. I decided not to take the chance and ordered a new CV Tech clutch from CPP. I didn't want to ruin a good clutch.

out of balance That is a big concern when you machine any clutch
and it is spinning thousands of rpm under you rear end.

It would be nice to have a junker and a lathe to play with to see if it could be done.
