g8 speed issue
OK i just rebuilt my g8 lift 22 tires 50mm piston 30 thousand off the head port and polish hot jet uni air filter modded stock exhaust and torque spring i just rebuilt and it goes pretty good seems slow yet only 25 on gps but i am not sure i have it quit right yet i think that maybe the gen belt or drive belt is to tight not to sure what is happening the cart feels like its dragging or something hung up like the brakes but when it is not moving i can push it back and forth with ease i just started having problems with the starter/gen it doesn't always want to start the cart at first i thought it was that i had 190 pounds of compression but sometimes the solenoid clicks and that is it nothing happens and other times it cranks over like a champ i definitely here a whistle while i am driving i was wondering if the gen belt is maybe to tight i have adjusted the drive belt both ways and there is still no different but there is definitely a whistle coming from the engine compartment sorry for the run on sentence any help would be great thanks

Re: g8 speed issue
-clean the electrical conections (batt. and soloid).
-my g9 with the jet kit filter and exaust mods is harder to start. but you could try richening the mixture w the mixture screw a bit. -25mph isn't slow for a cart! my g9 hit only 21mph -brakes could be dragging they are adjustible |

Re: g8 speed issue
When you did all the hi-performance work, you need to check spark plug for a lean condition, you may have to rejet larger.
My stock G8 goes 25 with tires that measure 21 1/2'' tall, and the windsheld in. Much faster with it out; well a little faster! The starter problem could very well be a compression issue, or new brushes maybe(in starter). The whistle could be the intake system, and you will hear that from now on. Stock Yamaha''s have all those snorcle? and plenum chambers to quiet that. Generator belt should have about 1" of flex when you push down in the center of the span. When the solenoid just clicks, the motor may be coming up on the compression stroke, and that 190# may be stopping it. When it starts fine other times, it may have just rolled over comp. stroke and have a running start at it! Make sence??? Check elect. connections anyway, you may have left one loose. Lady bug, I want to hear how that thing runs when you get it sorted out. Gonna be fun! |

Re: g8 speed issue
i think you are exactly right about the gen issue like you said some times it has a running head start when it has already cleared the compression stroke and other times it start right at the compression stroke and cant clear it for the whistle this just started never happened before i guess it could be the new clutch sheath i installed trying to wear in on used buttons i had about 15 minutes on brand new buttons so i swapped them out when i changed the sheath and i guess it could be those wearing

Re: g8 speed issue
Try to isolate the problem. Take off the drive belt and push the car to see if it makes the noise, then see if it makes the noise running the motor without the belt on. Does it make the noise with the belt on and in neutral? Jack up the rear end, and run the car with the rear wheels off the ground (be carefull there, don't need a runaway). Watch for it to shake off the jack stands!!! (Could remove the rear wheels, but put a couple lugs nuts on each side to hold brake drums in place, should eliminate most vibration)

Re: g8 speed issue
this morning i rode it and it went great pulled strong everything not to sure what has happen different but im wondering if the clutch buttons are wearing in and its getting a smother shift out i think that is what fixed it but i am still at the issue with the fact that my starter wont start the cart only once in a while like a running head start at the compression stroke went through connections all good and this gen never gave me a problem on the old engine
