Default Golf cart fever!

Golf carts are on the rise in the Drag Racing world. I went to the AZ. Nationals qualifing last year, and maybe their were 5 or 10. This year, there was about a 100 running around, all very nice of course, and many Yamaha's, maybe as many Yami's as Ezgo's. I was surprised!!
Good day, lots of horsepower, and NITROmethine!!

Gordie Revera rolled his Pro Stock at the top end of the track, but he got out OK! Car was a mess tho.

I agree with you on this Mike 100%. Your absolutely right. I have family in Bowling Green. There is always something going on at Beech Bend Park: Grand National weekend, Corvette weekend, car shows, drag races, etc... the list goes on and on. In the last 5 years, I've noticed a ton of golf carts hitting the scene. Heck, almost everyone in my family and my wife's family has them. Golf carts are one the most versatile, popular, and fun vehicles in the US. The possibilities with one are almost endless. People use these little vehicles for everything too. It's kind of comical, but I believe they are more popular than UTV's. It may be due to price. Not sure. I know I used to have Rhino but enjoyed, and still do enjoy, my old G9 a lot more than I ever did the Rhino.

Sprid, going out and just buying a UTV wouldn't interest me. I would have to build it. These golf cars just really caught me. I used to wonder what the he.. anybody would do with a hotrod golf cart. Then we got a little house in the pines, and got the opp. to get a golf cart so I bought it with the intention of just fixing it up show-room stock but clean! Well looking around, I began taking an interest in seeing what other people had done, and thought they looked cute, and man it was (beyond theropy) for me after that! I actually bought 2 carts (ezgo and yamaha). the ezgo was hard to work on (early stile), but the yamaha was very easy and fun so I prefer the yami. but I know the new plastic body ezgo's are good now also.
Driving one is ok, but working/learning and building one is the fun part for me!!

I agree that building them is the most fun! There are so many different kinds of carts and things that you can do to each. I myself have 5 carts and each one has its own personality! I live right down the road from Milan dragway in Michigan and spend a lot of time there. Not only do they use golf carts to pull the cars up to the line, but anyone can bring them into the pits. It's starting to become a competition of who has the most unique built cart out there. They are extremely addicting. I personally love finding the non runner and troubling shooting them! Plus, it's a good way to get a cart cheap.

You sound like just like me about 8 years ago. I prefer the Yamaha's because they are so simple to work on and mod out. It's definitely an addiction that will never go away.

I personally think the Yami's just have a way better sound to the motors. I have had several 2 stroke EZ-Go's and the motors sound more "pingy" and seemed to bog more often when under load. But hey, that's just my opinion. I definitely like my G2 better than all my carts. Unfortunately you can't have them all. I think I will have to thin the heard a little.

Here's how it started for me. One weekend we were having a camp out down at our creek, family and friends, campers, and kids everywhere. We lived on top of large hill right in the middle of 104 acres and the creek was down at the bottom. I had been looking for something to ride around on the property and help with a little work around the place. I was looking at all sorts of UTV's which cost an arm and leg. My wife's brother brings down this old golf cart (Yamaha G1). I started laughing my butt off. Here was this stock, beatup, smoking little cart that, seemed to me at the time, should be thrown away or hidden. LOL!! I laughed and made fun of that thing all day. Well, we needed some things from the house and most of women wanted to go. My brother in law said hop on the golf cart and I'll run all of you up to the house. I started laughing and said no way that thing is going to climb our hill loaded down with people. There was seven people loaded on this golf cart and it didn't miss a single climb all the way up to my house. After that we played on that cart all weekend, even in the creek. LOL!!! Needless to say, the rest is history and I never ever had another negative thought about a golf cart. Interesting enough, after I got my first golf cart (G9), the starter/generator and regulator went out after a month or so. I had to wait a couple of weeks to get my parts. I have to tell you, you would've thought I had lost my best friend until I got that cart up and running again. I'm not kidding, I was absolutely lost and sick!! I now make sure I own at least two carts at any given time. LOL!!!!
