Removing the F/R handle on G8
I'm in the process of removing the body on a G8 and am trying to remove the F/R handle. I was told to remove the c-clip but am having some trouble. Is there a trick to this? I can't seem to see the c-clip.
Thanks Fred Mc. |

Re: Removing the F/R handle on G8
Pretty much the same as the c-clip on a car window crank handle, a small screw driver to push one of the ends out of the plastic f/r handle should help.

I try to cup my hands around it when I release the clip, because it always goes flying across the room, then I gotta go find it, been lucky so far!!

Re: Removing the F/R handle on G8
They do make a tool and I used to have one, that works great on these. It's a window crank removal tool. I usually just use a small pocket screwdriver. But watch it because sometimes it will get away from you once it snaps off.

I got rid of that snap ring, drilled the shaft and tapped 8/32 and installed a nice looking screw, with some locktite to secure the shift handle.

Re: Removing the F/R handle on G8
Thanks to those on this board I got the clip out and the handle off. Just a tip for someone else who hasn't done it before. I made a small wooden wedge to wedge between the bodywork and the handle which allows easier access to the wire clip. It makes it easier to see what you are doing and the wood doesn't scratch the bodywork.
