Potential G2 project
I am considering a new project for next winter & had something come up recently. The Marathon has been fun & I figured I'd use it all summer & unload it sometime late in the summer/fall. I've been thinking about an older G2, due to availability of aftermarket stuff, & some comments I've read about them being pretty tough. To keep the initial cost down an older cart seems like it would work well (rather than dismantling a newer one). This will be an on/off road cart & should see it's share of trails & bumps.
Ultimately my goal is for an off road cart with a long travel IFS (possibly mod an ATV front end or use a Jakes/All Sport type suspension package). And probably a Harbor Freight/Duramax 13 - 16 hp gas engine. Speeds up to about 25 - 30 mph would be ideal. And the ability to go thru the bumps without separating a kidney (like the Marathon does). So here is a project I'm considering. As you can see it's a bare body & frame. The guy originally was asking $250 & is now firm at $150. It's about 4 hrs away. And I'd like to know if there are certain things I should look for on a G2. ie; I read that those side seat brackets are kinda scarce. He said the gas tank is good, and brake cables are there. Chassis has a little rust, but doesn't look bad. Body appears to be complete & in good shape. Any suggestions of what to look for? Or what not to do? Is the G2 a good candidate for a long travel IFS? Also, I would want it to be a good cart to use the Rhino bed on (that I haven't used on the Marathon). Hoping that it's possible to have a steel bed on the back, and still have a soft enough suspension that it can take some bumps. So any thoughts? Am I in the ballpark? Or off my rocker? |

Once you get the Yami you wont even remember the EZ slow again. That looks like a great deal for 150 i would buy it.

Re: Potential G2 project
Thanks Decipher. I really like the direction you've taken with your G1, ie; ATV long travel front end, bigger engine, etc. The G2 has an advantage (for me) that I like the body as is. And like yours, there won't be much Yami left when I get it goin...... frame, body, transaxle, gas tank, etc.
I just don't think the Marathon is the way to go. It's runs & drives fine so why dismantle it. And I've had a tough time finding parts for it. This project has the advantage that it's almost all dismantled already, no junk to unload! So does anyone make a roll cage/upper brush guard for the G2? Or will that have to be custom? |

Re: Potential G2 project
Im not sure about the ready made parts but there are a couple on here built. Im thinking of using a combo atv / cart brush guard not sure yet. I think anything other then the standard top would have to be custom bent tubing to achieve a sturdy roll cage.

Re: Potential G2 project
High speed gears are nice but usually they will only increase by about 5mph and they are expensive. Plowman's makes some great products and tons of mods. Torque won't be an issue with a 16hp either. I'd say you'd get more than 30 out of the cart with a 16hp and stock gears. With them, I'd say up around maybe 40. Just a best guess.
