Default Yamaha G14 smokes Bad

Hey gang, finally got my cart back home from Maine after the mandatory 3 day stay on US side,i thought i seen a trace of smoke when i tried it out, but nothing too apparent. After getting it home and unloading it, i noticed signifigant smoke, took belt off today and put a block of wood on the gas pedal at 50% throttle and let it run in the yard for 15 mins to get the muffler good and Hot,in case its just build up. It didn,t make any difference, but its only smoking on initial start-up after every shutdown, sound like a ring job? or is there anything else i can try,i'll do a compression test in the morning see if i can get a good reading and post results. Thanks in advance..

Right Sabercat, the problem is a compression check won't show bad oil rings. I would be more inclined to install new valve stem seals then guides, just haven't found guides to go bad. Is the spark plug oil soaked? Are you running a NGK-BPR2es spark plug? Good luck on your problem. Dave

OK Dave, had a chance to do comp test on it today, was very good, heres couple pics of the Plug, got a little vid of the amount of smoke, see if i can up it to youtube and link it here,Put a little Lucas Oil treatment in the oil today, see if maybe it loosens some carbon if its a stuck oil ring.Any other tips besides stripping it down for Valves and guides,BTW how big a job is it, does motor have to be pulled for that?

Holy plug deposits, Batman!

Lucas is a good additive, but what type did you add? In your case, it may be helpful for a stuck ring. I do not think it will hurt it to run with it, at least for a while. Stock Yami motors onyl came with the guide on one side, buy two and take the head to a machine shop and have them clean the head and re-install both guides. No need to pull the motor, although geting those shrouds off in the cart is almost as much of a pain as pulling it......

Good idea on the vid! 150 lbs is on the low side (i'd rather see 160 to 175) was the test done at wide open throttle? That plug is nasty. Did you try a new plug and check for smoking? My opinion whould be new rings ( if the cylinder walls are ok and the ring end gaps are in spec) and decarbon the head and valves and 2 new valve stem seals. It's not hard to clean/decarbon with wire wheels, and lap the valves. If you need help, just ask.

OK, thanks for the input guys, really appreciate it,The comp test was actually done cold, and never tried wet with a squirt of oil in the cylinder, figure its got more then enough in there now apparently, lol. So just lightly whirled it over at apprx 1/4 throttle till guage quit moving.I'll try a new plug in it next few days and give it a good run for 15 mins see if plug is burnin brown, i highly doubt it.
