Default G22 Starter motor problems

Please Help. Im having problems with my starter motor. I have replaced the brushes. When I try start I can hear the solenoid ticking but the starter dosen't turn. If I remove the drive belt the starter motor does turn over when I try and start it. So under load the start refuses to turn over! Any help would be appreciated.

Regards

Wayne

Does the armature turn easy by hand? Not binding.

The only other thing I can think of, when you reassembled, the brushes have to slide, unobstructed up and down in their keepers,(rectangular channel) and the wires on them can obstruct their movement unless each wire is pushed or placed so it doesn't obstruct brush movement. This might limit spring pressure on each brush. Make any sense?

I just did mine last week(new brushes) and had to pay attention to this detail.
Other people will be along, with other ideas.
Good luck Mike

I have had the same problem with my G22

I removed the generator pulled the 4 bruches & sand them a bit so the slide freely

you can also look at the negative wire comming from the wiring harness to the negative conector at the battery somtimes that little wire goes bad buypass it right at the connector

A weak armature will act the same way.

If you just put brushes in it you might need to go back in and also clean and polish the brush contact area on the armature?
That surface should be smooth and free of any metal dust.
Also check all of your cables and ends positive and neg for corrosion, you can have a 12V reading through a cable with a meter but corrosion causes resistance and can block the amps needed to spin the starter under load.
