governor help

Ok so the previous owner of my G1 took the governor off. It runs plenty fast for what it is right now (actualy a bit to fast for my kids but thats ok). The problem is that you cant go at a slow speed with this cart. Is there some sort of adjustment or somthing i can do to make it more crawler friendly? Or is putting the gov back on the only way to make it cruise slowly. The main reason im wanting the slow crawl back is i go through some woods and bumpy sections of trail and dont want to beat the cart (or my kidneys) to the point somthing falls out/off that should be attached.

see if the throttle open before the switch under the petal clicks, if it does adjust the cable so it opens the throttle after the petal switch clicks.

ok so after looking at the cart last night it looks like the gov might still be on there....any way to really tell? also what would be my plan of attack to make it cruise at slower speed better if it is still on there???

i am way ahead of ya.....i was just doing that when i saw you asked. i noticed that there is a rod that is almost "S" shaped that goes on the right side of the engine that is NOT hooked up to anything and just flaps around. you can see just the end of it on the second picture. Thanks in advance guys

The screw against the end of the spring in there, that is the adjuster. Out = slow. They put a longer one in it to push the spring more, I see it is all the way in. Back that out. If you want to go fast you can put a small pair of vice grips on that spring, on the other side near the cable end. Be careful it can't get caught on the intake rubber hose. Clamp the spring to the bracket at cable end. Sometimes the shaft breaks on these, then there will be no pressure on that arm. Have to take the trans apart to fix. Some people like me drill the arm out so it rotates on the shaft then it does not work, but you have to put another return spring on it usually.

the cart goes plenty fast for what i need right now....its just a issue of not being able to cruise at a slower speed

The screw only limits max speed via trans so it is ground speed, it does not limit power. If it will not slow down then you have to adjust the throttle cable. It should start and idle slowly when you press the pedal about 1" or less at the top. From there it should go progressively faster like a car. Ensure the carb is all the way open when pedal is down fully. Sometimes you have to pull the pedal off and move it a spline for more travel. Also make sure the carb is not moving in the rubber boot to engine. Take it off and clean with carb clean or something to remove oil and reinstall. If carb moves (twists) it messes up throttle adjustments. If it still does not run right slow, then the engine has a problem not the governor/throttle.

The link you see on the side of engine is to connect the throttle to the exhaust valve. The valve is near the engine on exhaust. They should have fixed it open, or replaced exhaust that does not have one some don't.
