Any ides from anyone on this
I am almost finished my 82 G1 Geep II just have to paint it yet so I have been putting off tearing into my other 81 G1. After I see if it needs rebored or not can anyone give me any ideas on trying to keep the engine cooler? I am going to install a large 12 volt fan I got out of a Dodge pickup that was on the radiator to help it stay cooler. The reason for this is I am pulling a 60 inch Swisher finish mower with it and mowing 2 acres. Any ideas on keeping it as cool as I can I would appreciate.
Thank you Calvin |

Re: Any ides from anyone on this
Do you have a torque spring and spacer on it? Using a torque spring on a G1 increases your pulling power at a possible loss of top speed. It should allow the engine to turn at higher RPM's which will give more air flow and better cooling. I have a torque kit from CPP on one of my buggies, and it works well. 18 inch tractor lug tires on stock 8 inch wheels. Top speed is still 10-15 MPH, same as stock. I use this buggy on my property as a utility vehicle, so load capacity and pulling power are important, high speed is not an issue. Something to think about.

GMB74 that is a great idea and I appreciate it, my governer arm has been broke off for a long time and I had to re-route the carb cable and this cart with stock wheels will do 28mph with a gps in hand but I am not looking for speed. I will definatley look into the torque spring and spacer thanks my friend and have a good day.

Hi Calvin, how about a vent on the wall of the bag well. This lets a lot of heat out on my G9.

Re: Any ides from anyone on this
I'm thinking like NewGuy, I'd try a vent at the rear and put a fan blowing out. Turn it on when you mow. Changing the clutching to get more rpm while mowing is another good idea, sure a 4 stroke you just wind the secondary but you can't with this. You might try spacing the secondary spring out, or getting a yamahauler spring for it if you still can they did make G1 haulers iirc they did have different springs I know the G9 haulers did. The G1 hauler I drove back then did seem to run a little different. They hauled two massive coolers and a normal size in it all the time, big hills there too, but most of the time I was on my faster cart lol.

Re: Any ides from anyone on this
Calvin, you are thinking of the speed spring that goes on the governor. I was talking of a torque or power spring that goes on the secondary clutch:
http://www.cartpartsplus.com/yamaha-power-kit.html The rear vent idea is a good one, too. |
