Default Primary clutch stuck on G16

I have a 2000 Yamaha G16 and after riding it the primary clutch became engaged (closed) and would not disengage(open). I greased it pretty good and it seems to disengage partially now but still not fully. What can I do to fix this problem. And what would it take to replace it if I have to????

With out the pros here, I can only tell you to remove the clutch cover, and take a look at the clutch weights (work in a centrifical manner) to see if one or more (3 total) is broken or looks out of place. When you grease, only 1 to2 pumps. To much grease will get on drive belt, not a good thing.
There are many posts on this subject, just search!
Last is, read this sight (all old posts) you will learn much info.
Good luck Mike

G16's and G22's use a clutch with rollers that the weights ride on. Pretty shure 1 or more rollers have worn and have a flat spot. When the clutch is engaged fully, the weight gets past the roller. Fix is remove clutch assy (will need the primary fixed sheave puller) and replace just the rollers (aftermarket) or the spider roller kit (Yamaha). If you thake the cap off (3 10mm head bolts) you'll see it. Good luck

I see on some clutch parts that they are a "comet" clutch. What clutch is on my G16? What is a "comet" clutch and what is the difference between that and a stock one?

The Comet was a popular brand after market performance clutch made by Hoffco Industries. They went out of business last year but may re-open soon under new ownership. You would most likely have the stock Yamaha clutch unless someone has replaced it. The stock clutch is fine for stock engines. Motors upgraded or replaced for more HP and RPM's benefit from a better, high performance clutch. There are also other makes that work well on golf carts.
