Do you put in a quart or fill it until it reads full on the dipstick. On a lifted cart what you do is drain out all the oil, put 1 quart of fresh oil back in, mark your dipstick at whatever height your oil is at, this is your new full. You should always use 1 quart of oil.

Hi Crispy~

Bordin is correct. With a lifted cart you may need to re-evaluate what the 'full' mark on your dipstick is. The angle of your engine changes a bit when you jack up your ride.

With the amount of smoke your describing on less than one quart it sounds like you are getting oil into the combustion chamber. I would suggest the drain/refill (1Q) to make sure you're not overfilling. Then do a compression check. A smoke show in nueltral will useally indicate rings going bad. Do a standard check as is and then try the 'wet' test with a bit of oil directly in the spark plug hole. If the compression readings go up with the oil then it's the rings for sure. If not then it could be build up in the muffler or possibly something with the valve guides or even the head gasket. There are only so many places for oil to get into your fire.

In any case let us know what you find on your next test efforts and we'll do what we can to help.

before i drained it the first time it wasnt smoking, so when i went to drain the oil, and replaced with new at 1 qt, it started to smoke so i drained some and retested, several times, drained again compleatly then filled again with 3/4 of the qt. still smokes, so, it maybe the rings, or something eles, i will update again when i get achance to get back to it, i have to wonder with the lift though is oil being trapped, due to the angle, maybe its not all drainig out??? who knows, thanks again for the help

I don't know what kind of problems you can get if you lift one really high and thus tilt the engine way up. Even then the cylinder is higher not lower. Since they are splash lube you don't want to run low oil. What I can tell you is one here the oil ring let go and it started burning oil. When it got low it would stop. I didn't check compression but it ran ok otherwise the compression rings were still ok. IMO if it burns oil with 1 qt in it, the oil ring has gone you need a rebuild and should gain power as well. Some say ring it the first time, I dunno, I never had good luck with a worn engine unless I bored it. The issue I ran into is I can buy a clone for about the same price and near double the HP so I did, but it will take some fabrication.

Note that if you put too much oil in it like I did mine once, it still didn't burn oil it puked it out the hose into my air cleaner and destroyed the filter. I would get a tiny puff when I took off hot but could barely see it just smell, I had to drain it after a while. The carts I saw with bad rings smoked all the time had to add oil all the time, but still ran ok aside from fouling plugs. Usually the oil ring let go and here one day its smoking and burning oil, it was not gradual, but still ran the same. These carts have some hours on them.

i am also having this same problem. i recently lifted my 91 g9 and noticed it was smoking a bit much. with the motor angle changing and making it "over filled" with oil, would that cause it to get oil in the air box and in with the plug? i saw a post about bypassing the pcv valve... im kinda stuck and dont know what direction to go in. any ideas would be helpful.

If you put over a quart in it will puke oil into the air cleaner on the filter, it should not at one quart. If you lifted it really high without relocating the swing arm/engine cradle, I don't know what it does then. It should not burn oil overfilled though, not the ones I saw.

Just reading post so its normal for some oil to be in air cleaner then. Cause I noticed that in my G9 when it gets warm it sometimes spits oil in air cleaner. Didn't know if I could plug up the hose that runs into the air box or will that be a bad thing to do.

The hose vents the engine, so get one of those tiny filters they use on gokarts or BB carts to put on it to keep dirt out if you don't hook it up.
