Air box mod Pic's
I took apart the air box on my G-16 awhile ago and saw how restrictive it is. . so I thought i would "open" it up alittle. so i have some pic's to show what I did. But now it seems to get too much air and needs a bit of choke to run the best what should I do so I don't need a bit of choke for it to run the best? would exhaust help or is this a car issue?
Here are the pic's: This is on the bottom and inside the 90 degree "elbow" that attatches to the carb. I cut that part out and drilled out the hole to match the same size as the opening of the 90 degree elbow. This is another look at how big I made the opening. The white marker on this is what I took out on the lid part of the air box. This is what it looked like when I cut that part out. The white is what I cut out on the bottom of the main air box piece. This is the part cut out. I am using the stock air filter should i switch to the K&N filter, should I be getting the new performance jet? should I make the exaust less restrictive? Do I have to make carb adjustments? |

Re: Air box mod Pic's
By opening up the air box, you've allowed the motor to draw in more air which has leaned out the air/fuel mixture. In order to fix that you should put larger jets in the carburetor. You may need to check what size jets are already in there, then get the next two sizes larger. Try them both and see which one works the best.

I just drilled four holes in the airbox( black peace you cut off) And it made a little diffrence, and runs better. Just my two cents.

Re: Air box mod Pic's
Well i had some time so i went back and took a look at it. I removed the air box then gave it some gas and started it. .after a second or two the throttle creeped back from full throttle to half way. I think this is part of my problem I will see if this changes anything then get back to you guys.

Re: Air box mod Pic's
You should probably try adjusting the carb mixtures before buying anything. You probably will need a jet but no harm in trying right!

Re: Air box mod Pic's
all the jets in the G16 are fixed. main jets are usually about $3 each. I prefer buying jets instead of drilling the main jet
you shouldn't need to change the pilot jets. http://denniskirk.com/jsp/product_ca...skuId=17631075 http://denniskirk.com/jsp/product_ca...n&skuId=170048 you could ask for keihn 5 packs |

Re: Air box mod Pic's
Ok so i took a closer look at my carb. First off i took out the plug and cleaned it up to bare metal to start off my testing. I re-installed the plug then took it for a burn driving it with no choke as long as it would go, and untill i thought i would be able the read the plug properly. took it out and confirmed my thoughts that it was way to rick, re-cleaned it, then i check the setting on the air-fuel mixture screw then i started to play with that. In the end I got it balanced out and now my plug looks good and the cart runs way better!!! thnx guy for you imput sorry it took so long to get back to ya. but thanks for all the help she runs like a dream now!!!
Thnx Mike |

Re: Air box mod Pic's
None of that seems quite right....must have had a rich mixture problem before the airbox mods? Glad to see you got it running better than ever!
