Default Purchased my New Cart and Getting Ready to Make some Mods

Hey guys I just bought my first cart, 2002 Yamaha G16 Gas Powered. It already has the flip flop rear seat and headslights/taillights. I wanted to get everyones opinion on the mods I ordered. I'm getting the "hot set-up" from Plowmans carts. I took off my carb and airbox and sent both to them, they are going to jet the carb and modify the air box and send them back to me along with a new unbaffled muffler, stronger clutch with new spring and new belt that they designed to be tighter than stock. Has anyone had any experience with these guys? Will these mods make a big difference?

I also purchased 22" tires and 10" wheels, steering wheel, steering column cover, carbon fiber dash, 6" Jakes A Arm lift, rear view mirror, seat belt kit, turn signal lever and tinted winshield. I purchased all of these parts form 3rsalesandservice.com. Is this a good site?

As you can tell I'm taking a plunge into the lifted cart world. Any suggestions or pointers would be greatly appreciated on how to maximize my performance and some dos and don'ts. I'm planning on installing all of the parts myself and have a moderate ability to work with tools (I do a lot of the work on my 72 Chevelle). All I know about carts at this time is what I have learned on the golf course. Thanks in advance for any pointers or suggestions!!

First of off... to BGW! This is a great site to help you start out with these four wheeled crack machines.

The G16 seems to be the biggest bang for the buck for starter carts. Although I just did some work on a G1 that tore up my lawn doing doughnuts during the post fix test run. The wife was pissed! ... It'll grow back.

Some things you should do is basic engine checks as soon as possible. Like compression, diff slop / oil condition & level, clutches, belts and BRAKES. Given you work on classic muscle cars I bet you have checked at least some of these things. It's important to be sure your internals are tight enough to handle all the bolt on power adds or you may end up blowing up the weakest components such as an old worn rings or valves.

Other than that it looks like your on the right track to a good go fast machine. Keep us up to date and this community will definitely help where we can.

Adding details like test results always helps out so we have a better idea where you are and how you got there. Then we can all argue over what we think is you next best move.

Welcome to BGW!

Both companies you mentioned are site sponsors here and are very good. You won't be disappointed with the plowman setup.

Post up some pics!!

You will be able to do everything yourself no problem. The hardest thing I ran into was the removal of the clutch.

See my build, same cart..

Dogpile - I checked out your build and am really amazed, you did a great job. What was your issue with the clutch? Plowmans is sending me the clutch puller and I am having them rebuild it so I'm hoping I don't have issues pulling it so I can send it to them. Also how hard was it taking the body off? I am going to have to do that to send it to paint. How much did you pay for the paint job? Thanks again for your support and I hope you don't mind if I ask you more questions as I go.

Thanks for the comments!

The body will take you about 30-45 minutes to take off... Its easy to do nothing odd or difficult about that. I had never taken one off either and I did it in a very windy cold barn, froze to death, but was done in less than an hour.

If you have a puller than you will have no issues with the clutch. I didnt and used the early 1800's method..... a 2x4 and a hammer.
When reattaching the clutch plate you can use a ratchet tie down to go across the plate to the frame on the passenger side of the cart. Get everything lined up and slowly ratchet it down. This will enable you to start the nut and get everything lined up correctly.

My paint was done by Chad Sweitzer in Bucyrus Ohio which, by the way, is just down the road from XTInnovations who does most of the seat work for everyone here.

The paint varies in price based on what you are wanting. I wanted Chevy Orange with Ghost Flames and the entire job was around 400$.

Here are a couple links:
Paint--Chad Sweitzer
www.sweitzers.com

Seats--Dave Leonhardt or Lane Carlisle, who, by the way, has some of the best homemade Maple syrup you will ever taste

Feel free to ask anything you want. No Worries!

I got the body off today and powerwashed the entire chassis and in all of the little nooks and crannies. It made a huge difference, I made a lot of progress in a day and will post pictures of the entire build when I'm finished. I ordered a body out of California that will be painted Ferrari red, the only issue is that they are using Nason paint (Dupont's cheaper line). Since it's for a golf cart and won't be in the weather all the time like a car I think it will be ok. I think I got a good deal since I paid $500 for the entire body painted in the color I chose...now I just hope it shows up!!

Also, getting the front clutch off was a breeze with the clutch puller...now I'm going to send it to Plowmans to get it rebuilt. Next I need to figure out how to pull the rear pulley so I can install the new Hot Set-up.

Rear Pulley comes off with the puller. What have you already taken off? Send pics.

Great deal on the body. Now you have an extra that you can get painted as well. Since they take just a little time to change out everyone will think you have two carts.

Let's see, I've taken off pretty much everything on the cart down to the floor board under the floor mat. I've just installed the rear part of the lift using the new springs (thanks for the heads up not to install the springs before the lift kit). I'm going to post all of the pictures at once to make my life a little easier. I just heard the body is shipping out today or tomorrow so I'm excited, I hope it gets here!

Did you have to relocate the Choke lever after you did your 6 inch lift? I'm a little worried about that but other than that all seems to be going well so far.
