Default G-1 exhaust plate

just wondering what the choke like plate in the intake of the muffler is for, seems to act like a throttle plate, i have a g-1 2 stroke that i am putting new rings and piston in,just wondering if this could have been the cause of piston and ring failure, no marks on cyl at all,

there is no such thing as an INTAKE to a muffler so you got me confused there. A muffler is exit only unless you are talking about the exaust flange on the engine side of the muffler where it bolts to the head? it is a piece of steel about 1/2" thick. and all that does is makes for a good flat surface for the muffler to bolt to the head. I cant see where ANY muffler part would cause damage to the internals of the engine because they DO NOT stick into the cylinder at all.

If this didnt help ya explain what part your talking about and maybe we can figure this one out????

there is a choke like flap, inside the manifold pipe on the engine side of the muffler, it opens and closes with the movement of the throttle shaft, it seems to have alot of carbon build up on it, what is the purpose of this plate.

that butterfly is to help the motor run smoother and quieter at slow speed. it's common practice to remove it for better all around performance if you run faster than the governed 12mph top speed. i removed the butterfly, shaft and related linkage and welded the shaft holes closed. (first tried filling the holes with jb weld but it did'nt last very long). better exhaust flow means better performance. hope this helps.

The disc/valve you are refering to is a way the engine can create allittle more torque at lower rpms. Alittle restiction can help 2 cycles at lower rpm. Hey Chuddly, "TAKE A PILL"! If you want the real name, it's called a nut ring. You came off sounding like the guy was an idiot for asking.....look in the mirror next time you think about posting. Good luck on your project Bogeyman

Thanks smallblock450sl do you think that could have something to do with the rings breaking on the exhaust side of piston, was thinking about mixing the fuel in the tank and not using the injector pump, any thoughts on this,

i mix my own gas because my pump quit working and killed my engine. to me its cheap insurance to just mix it myself and not worry about it ruining another engine

i removed the pump and pre-mix myself. i have a actual yamaha shop manual for the g1 and it states the injector adjusts the ratio anywhere from 300:1 up to 150:1 depending on conditions. that might be okay for a stock cart but i'm sure it's too lean for a modified cart. i mix mine at 100:1 which most of you guys out there probably think thats still too lean. iv'e had the motor apart and did'nt see any abnormal wear. the plug looks good and there is very little exhaust smoke.
