Default 1981 Yamaha Gas, motor turns over cart nogo

After sitting idle for 2 weeks, the cart ran for 1 block, then sputtered as if the gas line was plugging, then stopped. The engine will turn over (doesn't turn over real fast) but cart won't go. I charged the battery overnight and nothing changed. Lights are strong. If I knew how to check the charge on the battery with a small meter I would, otherwise should I just take it to shop to check the charge before any attention to fuel flow? Thanks

Whats up Mike to check the battery place your meter on the respective battery terminals and it needs to read between 12.7 to 13.1 on a full charge. But it sound like you have a fuel or spark problem. To check the spark remove a spark plug andplace it back into the boot put the ground strap up against a ground on the engine and crank the motor you should see a blue spark between the electrode and the ground strap. If you have spark you have a fuel problem.

Thanks Pilot..don't know why the meter readings weren't obvious, must be part of the reason I blew up 2 cells in a submarine battery! The battery was good, the spark was good, and then my wife spotted the broken plastic connector that fits down into the gas tank to connect the fuel line. It had snapped off at the top of the tank...had looked at the line before but not close enough I guess. I am trying an epoxy to glue the plastic piece back together, then reattach the hose/filter line. Appreciate it Mucho.
