Unhappy Yamaha G16 SMOKES

i have overhauled this cart 3 times , last time new piston & rings 50mm over , head shaved , new valves and seats with new seals , still smokes BAD soon as you crank it , have to put hand over carb to choke it enought to start , then hold factory choke out till it gets hot , bore looks new , spent 350.00 still smoke , every time take the head off will be about a half table spoon full of oil on the piston . I have a manuel , done the ring clearence thing and all , been fooling with this thing a year now , after you park it it will sit there a desiel because of the oil on top of piston , and yes only put 1 quart in it , i have took muffler off still smokes same , bypassed the fuel pump still smoke , have changed it several times , does have a gas smell to the oil .....Anyway im at ends wit with this thing , Any Ideas ????????

Wild guess here, but I would question the reed valves in the fuel pump or/and the diaphram.
Then check the float setting in the carb. as well.
The big guys will be by soon, then the serious trouble shooting will begin. Sit tight!

Wow, that's some strange chit You did a valve job and new valve stem seals, new rings..so wouldnt think oil rings have colapsed, 1 qt oil....Is there oil in the airbox in the portion that feeds into the carb? Is the cart lifted? If I think of anything else (thanks, I'll probably wake up in the middle of the night thinking about this one) I'll repost.

thanks No rush , its been 8 months LOL , im a little confused on the carb setting or reed valve making it smoke ?????? its a 4 stroke , I did have a 14 HP kolor eng that would smoke like that if a piece of trash got in the little flat spring valve on the side of the block , like the breather tube ,,,,,,, hummmmmm , does this G16 have a valve like that im missing letting oil in the cyl ? its drawing oil to the top of piston bad , I did not check the roundness of the bore ,,i did check the piston wall clearnce .002 i think on each side Thanks Don in NC reaviswelding.com

all new valves and seals , there not much oil slings up there , i cranked it in the shop with Valve cover off ,, same chit..air box is off right now ,on or off you have to completly close carb off to get it to pick up fuel to run , after it cranks you have to fether the carh (or the hole in the box ) to keep it going then slowly sat 2 min it will run this the choke out the 4 min push choke in and ride 10 min there no smoke , but when you stop it dont stop it keep running ( desieling ) man i dont know ,,,,,,stumped ,, but wont give up . im gonna fix it if cost 5000 bucks LOL..Thanks to all Don in NC reaviswelding.com
