Default 1991 G9 Info?

Hello,

I was given a well used non running 1991 G9.
I pulled it appart today.
After three or four years with the governor tied open the ballancer shaft let loose.(see pics)
I am looking for some advice as what to do.
-Is the engine repairable/usable with the cracked bosses where the ballancer shaft rides?
-Clutch has missing metal on the belt face (see pic) usable?

I don't have much money to put into it.
What would be the most cost effective repairs to get it running?

Thanks,

Matt

my clutch had that happen to it to, its just worn out. you need a new floating flange for it which is the movable sheive of the - the spider and weights.

would not use that balencer shaft!

There have been a few discussions here about those balancer shafts. It looks as if there is enough support in the crankcase boss for that to be re-used, if not I think the cheapest and easiest would be to find a new crankcase cover. Reputable people have put them back together without the balancer with good results.....

Thanks for the replies.

I will see if I can find a new clutch flange.

I may try the engine without the ballancer $223.
-Anyone personally tried this?

Thanks again,

Matt

Balancer just gets rid of vibration, the engine does not care in fact it takes power to run them.

You can buy that sheave if that is the weight type clutch, TNT has them iirc I did one. Use a propane torch to heat the set screws and take the pins out to get it apart. Assuming all the parts are good put a little locktite back on them, lube the pins with say chain lube, grease the center bushing, you are good to go except clean/lube the rear clutch too and put a new/fresh belt on it. The aluminum parts of sheaves wear out from sand usually, the secondary will do the same thing. When they wear they don't shift good anyway and you lose power often lose top speed because the belt will not climb them correctly.
